During the initial interview, if the problem appears more than simply fire curiosity, the juvenile is immediately referrred to mental health professionals.

It is offered the first Monday of each month. They are scheduled by us to attend one workshop. Fire safety, consequences of setting fires, pulling fire alarms, etc. restitution, etc. are discussed. A certificate is issued at the end of class for court purposes. We are in the process of meeting with the court system to see if we can offer further evaluations if needed.

Individual interviews are conducted with each child and the current caregivers to determine if additional counseling above and beyond the fire safety education would be required. All fire safety education is taught in a one on one enviornment at a level designed to meet each youth's individual comprehension level. Youths attending a court appointed class will receive a letter of completion at the end of the class. Typical time for interview and the fire safety class runs between one and two hours.
