Pre-Fire Planning
An important part of your pre-fire evacuation planning includes
giving your fire department basic information about your facility.
Sample Form:
- Address of facility.
- Owner of facility. Address of owner.
- Fire safety director's name. Deputy fire safety director's
name.
- Does a Certificate Of Occupancy exist for the building?
- Building height, area, class of construction, and number
of floors.
- Number, type, location, and alphabetical/numerical listing
of the facility's fire stairs.
- Number, type, and location of horizontal exits.
- Number, type, and location of elevators.
- List the number of interior fire alarms and smoke detectors
as well as their locations. If your facility utilizes heat detectors or
manual pull stations, list them here as well.
- List the type of communications system your facility
utilizes. Include the number and type of portable radios, the number and
location d fireman's stations, and the type and location of your emergency
public address system.
- List type of standpipe system your facility utilizes.
- List the type of sprinkler system, such as dry or wet,
and the locations of water supply, the control valve, and the water flow
alarms
- List the type, number and location of special extinguishing
systems, such as kitchen ansul system.
- Estimate the average number of employees your facility
employs during day and evening hours. If your facility is open 7 days per
week, take this into account as well.
- Indicate the total number of persons with physical disabilities
that work in or visit your facility.
- Indicate the average number of visitors and guests at
your facility on any given day.
- List the types and locations of the building's service
equipment, such as source of building power, type of lighting, emergency
lighting, and type of heating systems.
- Indicate the type of ventilation your facility utilizes.
- Indicate the types and locations of the facility's air
conditioning systems. If it is an incremental system, indicate its location.
If the systems are electrical cooling units, list on which current they
operate and give their locations. If the systems are air handling units,
list on which current they operate and give their locations.
- Indicate how refuse is stored and handled.
- Indicate any hazardous materials stored inside the building
or on the site.
